Firexo Fire Extinguishers for Taxis, Buses, Coaches & Fleet Vehicles
One Extinguisher. All Major Fire Classes.
Vehicle fire risks have changed considerably. Modern taxis, buses, coaches, minibuses and fleet vehicles can contain conventional fuels, increasingly complex electrical systems, electronic equipment and lithium-ion batteries.
Think Fire supplies Firexo All Fires Extinguishers, providing transport operators with a versatile fire protection solution capable of addressing the major fire types likely to be encountered in modern vehicles.
Rather than relying on several different extinguisher types for different risks, Firexo provides a simpler option: one compact extinguisher with broad fire-fighting capability, including independently tested performance against lithium-ion battery fires.
DVA Acceptance of Firexo Extinguishers
An important development for Northern Ireland transport operators is confirmation regarding the acceptance of Firexo extinguishers by DVA vehicle examiners.
The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) confirmed that DVA vehicle examiners were issued an internal technical circular in April 2026 regarding the acceptance of Firexo extinguishers.
Inspectors were advised that the statutory reference to water includes water-based extinguishing media. This is particularly relevant to Firexo, which uses a water-based extinguishing medium with additive technology.
Why Choose Firexo for Vehicle Fire Protection?
Traditional extinguishers are generally selected for particular types of fire. Depending on the risks present, this can mean carrying different extinguishers for different situations.
Firexo takes a different approach.
Its broad capability means one compact extinguisher can address the major fire types likely to be encountered within a modern transport environment.
This can be particularly important when a fire starts unexpectedly. A driver may have only seconds to react, and having several different extinguishers can create uncertainty over which one should be used.
With Firexo, the decision is much simpler: one extinguisher, less confusion.
The 2 Litre Firexo – Compact Protection for Vehicles
The 2 litre Firexo extinguisher provides a compact fire protection option well suited to taxis, minibuses, buses, coaches and other fleet vehicles.
Firexo is designed for use across a broad range of fire risks, including:
- Class A fires
- Class B fires
- Class C fires involving gases
- Class D fires involving metals
- Electrical fire risks
- Class F fires
- Lithium-ion battery fire scenarios
Firexo’s lithium-ion performance has been independently tested. The manufacturer also states that its extinguishers have been tested to 35 kV and are suitable for use on live electrical equipment up to 1,000 volts when used at a distance of one metre.
Protection for Modern Electrical Risks
Electrical systems within vehicles have become considerably more sophisticated.
Modern commercial vehicles can contain charging equipment, electronic control systems, entertainment systems and numerous electrically powered components. The growth of electric and hybrid vehicles adds another dimension to the risks transport operators need to consider.
Firexo’s electrical capabilities make it particularly relevant to these modern vehicle environments.
The manufacturer reports successful 35 kV dielectric testing and suitability for use on live electrical equipment up to 1,000 volts at a distance of one metre.
Independently Tested on Lithium-Ion Battery Fires
Lithium-ion batteries are increasingly common throughout the transport sector and present a challenging fire risk.
Firexo has undergone independent testing by RISE involving lithium-ion scenarios, including a large automotive cell and a smaller battery pack.
It is important to distinguish independent testing from a formal extinguisher classification. There is currently no dedicated international extinguisher classification or standardised extinguisher test specifically for lithium-ion battery fires.
Firexo’s lithium-ion capability should therefore be considered on the basis of its independent testing rather than as a specific international lithium-ion extinguisher classification.
Water-Based Extinguishing Technology
Firexo describes its FX51 extinguishing medium as a water-based formulation with additive technology.
This is particularly relevant to the DfI clarification regarding vehicle extinguishers. DfI’s position confirms that references to water do not exclude water-based extinguishing media or water containing additives.
PFAS/PFOA-Free Formula
Environmental considerations are also becoming increasingly important when businesses select fire safety equipment.
Firexo describes its current water-based formula as PFAS/PFOA-free.
Independent laboratory analysis supplied by Firexo reported that the tested PFAS compounds, including PFOA and PFOS, were not detected.
A Cleaner Alternative to Dry Powder
Dry powder extinguishers can create practical problems when discharged, particularly within confined environments such as vehicle interiors.
The powder can create a dense cloud, reduce visibility and leave significant residue across the vehicle and its equipment.
Firexo’s water-based extinguishing agent avoids the characteristic dusty powder cloud and is promoted as being easier to clean up following use.

Firexo for Taxis, Buses, Coaches & Commercial Fleets
Firexo can provide a practical fire protection option for a wide range of transport applications, including:
- Taxis
- Private hire vehicles
- Buses
- Coaches
- Minibuses
- Commercial vehicles
- Company vehicles
- Fleet vehicles
For operators managing multiple vehicles, standardising extinguisher provision can also help simplify equipment management and reduce uncertainty for drivers.
A Smarter Approach to Vehicle Fire Protection
The fire risks present in modern vehicles are changing.
Electrical equipment, electronic systems and lithium-ion batteries mean fleet operators need to consider more than traditional vehicle fire hazards.
Firexo provides a straightforward solution by combining broad fire-class capability within one compact extinguisher.
For drivers, that means one extinguisher and less uncertainty. For operators, it provides an opportunity to simplify vehicle fire protection while addressing a wider range of modern fire risks.
